Woodshaping – Carve a Spoon from a Log

  • MAXT Makerspace 49 Vose Farm Road, STE 110 Peterborough, NH, 03458 United States (map)

Splitting a fresh cut log and carving it into a useful and beautiful spoon is a truly rewarding experience. In this class, students will explore a variety of methods, both traditional and contemporary, by which to shape a chunk of wood into a spoon. Working with traditional spoon carving tools (such as a froe, hatchet, carving knife, hand plane, and gouge,) as well as a few power tools (such as the band saw,) we will learn to split, mill, rough-out, carve, scrape, and finish, as we reveal the spoon within each log.
